MDAC 2.8 SP1 is a complete pack of updates for MDAC 2.8 (Microsoft Data Access Components), the framework created by Microsoft.   The Service Pack 1 for MDAC 2.8 installs the same main Data Access components as Microsoft SQL Server the ODBC controller. Whereas, this pack doesn't include Microsoft Jet, nor the ODBC controller for Visual FoxPro.

  The most recent version of MDAC were integrated into the Microsoft operating system and into Internet Explorer. After MDAC 2.8 SP1 they stopped offering the framework as a redistributable pack. Even though MDAC has had various security vulnerabilities along the years, these have been fixed with the many updates.
